Application

Training Modules
Extracting the Patch from Envelope: Take out the Sweat Patch from its transparent outer envelope.
Peeling Off Backing: Detach the white backing with the PharmChek® logo from the patch. While removing it, hold the Sweat Patch by its non-adhesive ends to prevent contact with the sticky surface.
Applying the PharmChek® Sweat Patch: For upper arm applications, ask the donor to flex their arm muscles. If applying to the back or midriff, have the donor lean forward (for back) or backward (for midriff) to stretch the skin, thus preventing mechanical skin damage. Then, place the PharmChek® Sweat Patch on the cleaned, stretched skin area. Firmly press it onto the skin and gently rub around the absorbent pad with an index finger for about 10 seconds.
Removing Outer Border: Locate the slit on the paper border of the PharmChek® Sweat Patch. Peel off this border and discard it. Gently rub the film at the outer edge of the patch.
Observer’s Certification: The trained observer should sign the “Observer’s Certification” box at the time of Sweat Patch application.
Instructions to Donor: Inform the donor of the scheduled removal date for the Sweat Patch. Advise them to notify staff if the patch loosens before the removal date. The donor may continue normal activities like working, bathing, showering, and exercising, but should be careful to pat the patch dry, not rub it, after washing.
Monitoring Sweat Patches: Organise the chain-of-custody forms in a file for timely recall of the donor for patch removal.
Donor’s Responsibilities: The donor is allowed to bathe, shower, swim, exercise, etc., but should pat the patch area dry gently instead of rubbing it. Avoid hot tubs, tanning booths, extended sauna use, or sweat lodges. The donor must report to the applying agency if the adhesive on the Sweat Patch starts to fail
Key considerations for applying the PharmChek® Sweat Patch include:
Select the specific area on the body where the patch will be applied.
Cleanse the skin vigorously and thoroughly. Optimal adhesion of the patch is achieved on skin that is free from oils, dirt, and dead skin cells.
Ensure strong adherence of the patch to the skin by firmly pressing it onto the skin both before and after the removal of the white border.
